Well, here I go again! Sunday at 4:05 the plane leaves from State College en route to Kiev. This trip, should be pretty straight forward--pick up Dema's new birth certificate, apply for his passport, wait 5 days, take Dema from the orphanage, go to Kiev for a medical exam, and wait for approval from the US embassy. ...arrive in country on the 10th, depart on the 20th.
But, nothing related to this process can be that easy!!!
When we booked our airline tickets for the second trip, we needed to book 3 one way tickets because of Dema traveling...the return trip required that an adult book a trip with a child. So, we booked well in advance ensuring the best possible price. The plan backfired!!! We purchased the tickets expecting Dema's given name to be Dema, but for one reason or another, we had to go with Dmytro. So, the name on the ticket is wrong!!! I have to go to the Aeroflot desk in Kiev and beg them to make the change--if they will not do it, the mistake will end up costing us an additional $1000 for two more tickets a rental car, and a long drive from JFK.!
It'll all work out...just another bump in the road!
