Learn to do right; seek justice. Defend the oppressed. Take up the cause of the fatherless; plead the case of the widow.

Isaiah 1:17

Religion that is pure and undefiled before God, the Father, is this: to care for orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself unstained by the world.

Day 2 in the orphanage

Have you ever wondered what would happen to you if you never knew where you were going, when you would get  there, or what you were going to do when you got wherever you were going?  Or if you were driven around  town seeing street signs, shop signs, fliers and banners with nothing but Cyrillic  characters while 99% of what you hear you can't understand?  After just 5 days of this, here is what happened to us!  Oh yea, can't forget, today our taxi driver was stopped at a roadside traffic stop (military), he was taken from his car, his car was searched and our passports were checked.  Just try to imagine sitting in the back seat not knowing what is happening, what is being said, or even why it is happening!!

The stress and fatigue all went away after just a few minutes of our daily visit to the orphanage!

Today, we took matchbox cars, Jenga, soccer balls, and of course snacks for Dema.  It shouldn't surprise us, but when we walked into the room with the younger boys, the first thing they did was share their snacks with us--now, remember these kids eat in an entire day the caloric equivalent to what most of us eat for breakfast!  Dema immediately began dividing his gifts among the other kids, and of course, he shared all of his snacks!  We had a great play time and visit--many of the kids on his floor were stopping in, you could tell that they were  just longing for a family of their own!

Cheri and Russie--Nastya came to me and said,   ""No" Eric--you Dadushka"  I guess that'll be acceptable...how could I say NO!!

We got to see Nastya, but Denis was sick, Dema said he was coughing.  Cindy and I both got hugs, but she just grabbed on to me and squeezed with everything she had, then very quietly stepped back and said tickle tickle.  (This is relevant to most who were involved with the hosting program)  It was great to see her and we are looking forward to more time with her!  Please pray for her and Denis--this will be a tough week for them!
Here is Dusty and "the boys"  Guess who is in the background giving the bunny ears! In less than 2 weeks these guys will be with their forever families!  Congrats to the Walks and Kunstbecks!!!  Were next, with plenty more to follow!

Vika is sooooo excited to have her mama and papa come to bring her home!  She is just walking around beaming from ear to ear!  We can't wait to see their reunion!  Only a few days till they get here!
Andre!!! This little guy is such a different person since he has been in America!  He seeks us out, tries to get involved with the games we are playing and actually looks for hugs!

Today, Andre came to us with a picture book and showed us a picture of an evergreen tree and pointed to the wall, then to the floor.  Obviously, we were confused, we just couldn't figure out what he was trying to say, so I asked him if he wanted his picture taken in front of the tree..of course he agreed to having his picture taken, but that's not what he wanted.

Thankfully, a Ukrainian missionary came by and translated for us  that he was asking us to buy the group a Christmas tree!  We will visit with the orphanage director Monday to seek permission to get them their tree...hope it goes well!  Unfortunately, the Christmas tree lots over here are filled with artificial trees--I think about the Charlie Brown Christmas and his trip to get a tree for the play!  I wish we could get these guys a nice big Frazier Fir, but it looks like an artificial will have to do...

This little guy came to us with a certificate, chest puffed out and a huge smile on his face.  He had just won the boxing title for his age group!  He is a  neat kid who seems to be the protector of the others in Dema's group.  Hopefully we will get to spend more time with the entire group, it looks like there are some really cool guys there!

Don't forget to check out our Facebook page--lots more pictures there!
