One of the biggest persons we have experienced while in Ukraine is St Nicolai. We knew that he had some relation to our Santa Clause, but beyond that, we didn't know much!
Because St Nicolai is such a big part of the Ukrainian culture, more specifically, in the lives of these children, I needed to find out more.

We did make it out to buy Dema his wallet, but decided that we would give it to him when we left to come home--as a Christmas gift. We are now wondering what is going through his mind...why didn't mama and papa give him his St Nicolai gift yesterday?
Hopefully, when he gets his Christmas gift, we will be able to help him understand that in America we will celebrate Christmas, not because of the works of a single man, but because we are honoring, remembering, and celebrating the birth of our Savior!
