Learn to do right; seek justice. Defend the oppressed. Take up the cause of the fatherless; plead the case of the widow.

Isaiah 1:17

Religion that is pure and undefiled before God, the Father, is this: to care for orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself unstained by the world.

Day 3

Day 3 was a busy day for our adoption facilitator--she left the apartment at 8:00, and did not return until 5:00.  We are so grateful that she is working this hard to try and move us along as quickly as possible.  Today, Sveta completed our paperwork and submitted it to the court, tomorrow she will submit the paperwork for our name change.  To my dismay, it looks like we will have to go with Dmytro for his first name...I don't understand the reason, but like I've said before, you don't need to understand, you just need to do!  So, even though I am not a fan of nick names, we will call him Dema, with his birth certificate reading  DMYTRO ERICSON NOEL.   Unfortunately, the time she needed to move our documents through meant that we only had 45 minutes at the orphanage today. We did make the best of our limited time, we played BINGO and Dema and Cindy ate red bell pepper slices.

I hope this isn't a sign of things to come, but immediately after arriving, the caretaker shuffled us to a room downstairs to play with Dema...we didn't get to spend much time with any of the other kids.  Only 2 of the boys found their way to our little corner of the orphanage.

We think Dema is at the place where he understands most of what we are saying...if we say something, he seems to catch the jist of it.  He did show us today that he knows the alphabet and can count to at least 20.

When it was time for us to go, he said "no bye bye, no bye bye!"  But he followed us down to our driver and wanted to talk to Sveta.  When he found her, he asked, "can we leave and go to America now?"

WE WISH IT WERE NOW!!!!
This is Amir--he came for a visit!  He and his younger brother are in the boxing program  at the orphanage, Dusty says their coach is a really great guy who just loves the kids!  They seem to be great boys!
This is Vatalie--probably the most outgoing boy in Dema's group.  He has a cast on his left, hand but always wants to shake your hand...with his left hand!
